When you back up your data with CloudAlly, by default, it will be retained for as long as you are subscribed to the CloudAlly service – your backups are immutable.
In certain circumstances, you may wish to change your retention period, due to various regulations or policies. For example, under the GDPR regulations, companies are instructed to delete customer data that is no longer necessary. So a company might decide to limit their retention period of their backups to [X] number of days, months, or years in order to be compliant with GDPR.
To change your CloudAlly retention period, contact CloudAlly support, and it will be changed for you. (This cannot be changed through the UI.)
You may specify a different retention period (days, months or years):
- Per user within an organization
- For example: the CEO retains data indefinitely, but all other employees’ data is retained for 5 years.
- Per backup task
- For example: Your Microsoft 365 data is retained indefinitely, but your Dropbox data is retained for 7 years.
It is not possible to specify different retention periods per sub-service. For example, you cannot set separate retention policies for Google documents, tasks, and calendar events.
