The Object Lock setting makes your backed up files immutable – they can neither be modified, nor deleted. Some customers might be required to enable Object Lock for regulatory purposes. Others might choose to set this up for policy reasons.
Pre-requisites:
- You must have “Bring Your Own Storage” using Amazon S3.
- You must first activate Object Lock on Amazon S3. For Amazon’s information about this topic, see Using S3 Object Lock and Configuring S3 Object Lock. In particular, note the difference between the two Retention Modes: Compliance mode and Governance mode.
To set up CloudAlly Object Lock:
- Once you have activated Amazon’s Object Lock, contact CloudAlly support, and let them know you would like to activate Object Lock on your CloudAlly account.
- Once Object Lock has been activated on your CloudAlly account, there are two things you should be aware of:
- You will not be able to use the CloudAlly retention period – the Amazon retention period will be in force.
- It will not be possible to enable GDPR delete, where customers can request that their Personal Information is deleted.
